A few days ago I celebrated into the new year in campo San Marco in Venezia, Italia. This involved great friends, great food, and a seemingly never-ending supply of wines. Venice is one of the nicest cities I have ever had the pleasure of visiting, and also one of the strangest. The entire city is very similar to a maze, with hundreds of tiny streets (if you can call them that, I'm just glad I'm not obese) forming a latticework connecting various squares, shops, and houses. The city itself is literally on the water, and in times gone was the cultural and political center of the entire region, a place where noblemen were equals in the palace courts and the renaissance raged. I loved everything about this trip and highly recommend to anyone considering a trip to Italy to check out Venice (previously I had been to Pisa and Tirrenia several times). Beware though that Venice is definitely touristy and expensive - make sure you use the bus (e.g. to Venice itself), water bus, and super markets to save money on expensive travel and meals.
